1,750.00

Eccentrically boro and sashiko stitched furoshiki

* From the collection of Stephen Szczepanek

ERA

Circa 1900

DESCRIPTION

This piece is a very unusually shaped, patched and sashiko stitched furoshiki: a furoshiki is a traditional wrapping, carrying or hauling cloth which was ubiquitous in old Japan and is still used a good deal in modern Japan.  The stitched patches and their placement, as well as the unusual sashiko stitched configuration on the base cloth make this an unusual and rare sashiko stitched furoshiki.
