GIANLUCA PACCHIONI

GIANLUCA PACCHIONI

05.05.2018 - 07.03.2018

This show highlights the painstaking craftsmanship and powerful beauty of Gianluca Pacchioni’s furniture and objets. Each piece reflects the artist’s mastery of sculpting, casting, engraving metal and mineral matters. Pacchioni’s relentless study and experimentation with bronze, brass and stone has informed his creative expressions. The metalsmith delights in the juxtapositions between raw-rough and refined or polished – his Cremino tables, for instance, reveal something rough-hewn that is then partially buffed away.

Working at his Milan-based studio with local artisans, Pacchioni brings to life an aesthetic that echoes with old-world savoir-faire expressed in contemporary forms.

The forms seem almost fantastical - an oversized screen of fossilized tropical leaves, a piece of travertine atop stiletto legs, glimmering replicas of tropical animals frozen in time. There is the sense that the pieces belong in another time or some other world altogether.
