DESCRIPTION

Part of the Artists Collections of Bernardaud, Marlène Mocquet's set of 12 plates developed in collaboration with the French artist.

"I don't like to eat alone. […] I like the social interaction and the idea of sharing a meal. When I'm by myself, I eat looking at my fridge and my mind start wandering.
When I accepted Bernardaud's invitation, I had to let go and accept the idea that my painting would continue to evolve in the hands of the porcelain manufacturers. I wouldn't be able to control the final form of my work. It inspired me to think that people would be eating on my paintings. It would be like a conversation with the plates’ users who will be discovering or making their own story in the imaginary landscapes that I created. Each of the plates has its own story.

I painted directly onto the plates, just like I do with my canvases. I prepare random, improbable mixtures of organic substances and observe the evolution of the drawing as it dries. I like mixtures and transformations.

It's paradoxical, but I cook at my studio, not at home! This project has gotten me thinking about how I relate to food, as well as the person who is going to eat the food from my plate. […]"
