Before opening Les Ateliers Courbet in 2013, Melanie Courbet was an independent curator and a consultant specialized in contemporary art and design. Exhibition programs developed by Courbet were shown at the MUBE Museum in Sao Paulo, the New Museum in New York, Jean de Merry in Los Angeles, Cappellini in Los Angeles, Le Musee des Arts Decoratifs in Paris, Los Angeles Municipal Art Museum as well as Christie’s both in Paris and Los Angeles. For 10 years, Mrs Courbet has advised clients both private and institutional between Europe and the United States. Her passion for art and design combined with her business and communication skills have lead her to collaborate with international designers and artists and supervise exhibitions, artistic collaborations or design projects around the world.

Melanie has collaborated with a wide scope of entities including the French Ministry of Culture and Communication, Morphosis Architects, Dror and various brands under the LVMH Group.



As Les Ateliers Courbet's Showroom Director, Samuel Leeds brings to the team his decorative art and marketing-communication expertise gained over years of collaboration with institutions such as the Jewish Museum, The Metropolitan Museum of Art, and The American Folk Art Museum in New York City. Previous to the museum world, Mr. Leeds' background was in Fashion and Publishing Today he advises Les Ateliers Courbet’s clientele while managing the gallery exhibition and events programs with the showroom's manufacturers, artists and collaborators.



Project Manager and Les Ateliers Courbet representative in Japan, Ayako Mochimaru share her passion for authentic, time-honored craftsmanship with the team. Together with Melanie Courbet , Ayako scours Japan for the finest works and liaise the New York showroom with some of the most skilled hands and visionary craftsmen in the Kyoto prefecture. Ayako and Melanie met prior to the showroom opening and have worked together in bringing Japan Handmade to New York with an on-going program of exhibitions and engaging events introducing international clients.


Ayako has lived and studied in France and Italy where she graduated in gemology and jewelry making. After working for jewelry studios and luxury brands in Tokyo, Ayako joins the revered textile company of Hosoo in Kyoto and contributes to the international awareness and exportation of the 320 years old family owned weavers workshop. Today, Ayako manages special projects and craftsmen relations for Atelier Courbet in Kyoto and Tokyo where she runs her consulting agency.




Sales Representative and Brand Ambassador, Cannon Schaub brings to Les Ateliers Courbet's clientele of Interior Designer and Architects the expertise she has grown over twenty years of experience with showrooms including Christian Liaigre, Holly Hunt and Knoll Luxe among others. Cannon provides tailored advisory and sourcing services with her boutique agency, Crave Collective. Her portfolio includes Savoir Beds, Foglizzo and Voutsa alongside Les Ateliers Courbet.



International journalist and regular contributor to magazines including Numéro, Wallpaper*, Les Echos, Air France Madame (Condenast) or Departures Magazine, Clara Le Fort tracks trends and new ventures around the world. Clara is a widely published Architecture and Design critic, author of a series of Louis Vuitton City Guides and consultant for luxury brands including Hermes, Louis Vuitton, Le Meurice. She has joined Atelier Courbet prior to the shop opening, acting as a curatorial advisor. Mrs Lefort is responsible for numerous exhibition programs at the New York based Master Craftsmen Gallery.
