LES ATELIERS COURBET is a design gallery with an adjacent showroom based in New York with a design advisory platform and showroom in Miami. Established in 2013 in New York City, the Master Craftsmen’s Gallery has gained international recognition for its acute selection of timeless design pieces and distinctive exhibition program highlighting the design legacy and craftsmanship expertise of revered manufacturers from Europe, Japan, North America or Nepal.
Today the gallery represents more than 30 master craftsmen and designers. While anchored in cultural heritage, the selected collections include both pieces culled from the archives and contemporary works. Whether vintage or new, the pieces presented reflect the ongoing collaborations between established manufacturers and designers or artists. Les Ateliers Courbet contributes to the ongoing design and craftsmanship legacy of its manufacturers by initiating exclusive artist/designer collaborations including artist rug editions by Frank Gehry and Vladimir Kagan, and Lobmeyr and Wiener Silber Manufactur collections by Aldo Bakker among many others.
The gallery works closely with each studio to place sought-after archival and contemporary pieces in institutional and private collections. Since its opening, Les Ateliers Courbet has placed and donated works to museums and institutions such as the Cooper Hewitt Museum, The Glass House of Philip Johnson and Philadelphia Design Museum, among others.
While growing its gallery representation program with exhibitions, institutional collaborations and publications, Les Ateliers Courbet aims to further support its portfolio of master craftsmen through the Editions Courbet – a collection of limited edition pieces created by guest artists, designers, luminaries and handcrafted by Les Ateliers Courbet’s master craftsmen.
