Cajfinger's Gujar cashmere textiles are hand-woven in the Srinagar Valley in Kashmir by a family owned workshop that carries on the traditional and meticulous weaving techniques of the region.
The cashmere is off utmost quality made from tightly-selected hair of goats living 4,500 meter altitude (14,760 feet). The cold temperature at these high altitudes make the goat develop under layers of wool. With great respect to Nature and the animals, the local community has long maintained the seasonality of the harvesting of the hair in June. This enlightens the goats from their coat for the Summer and keep them protected from the cold in the Winter.
Part of the time-honored techniques carried on, the weavers comb the hair in a very specific way that both strengthens and softens the yarns. The color palette is created with traditional techniques and natural pigments.
